Every time my brother comes to Texas there is somewhat of an agenda with one main goal in mind, sometimes starting before the sun is even up.
This last trip, him and a few friends arrived in Austin at 2:30am and headed straight for anything that was open, which led them to a downtown food truck called “BBQ Heaven”. Oh, they were excited. But the cook was just cleaning up and had actually closed nearly an hour ago, however he could appreciate a good love of BBQ and after chatting for a moment, my bro and his friends walked away with a big bag of leftover BBQ. Which they enjoyed on the drive over to the east side, for a peek at Franklin BBQ, that would open in just 7 hours. It was 4am now and no one was in line so they decided to take a brief nap in the truck. They walked back over around 7am and already 2 people in line. 4 more hours, $200-some-dollars, and 20-some lbs of meat later, just get a look at how happy they are when they finally make it inside!!
Their goal is to sample the most amount of BBQ, from as many places as possible in the 3-4 days he’s here, which means no meal must go without a decent amount of smoked meat. And (obviously) you have to eat on butcher paper. I like BBQ myself, but I’m usually meat-ed out by day 2, so for breakfast I added a touch of veggies and fruit to this BBQ.
